The City

The City of Pézenas, Hérault, Occitanie, Holidays, Sea and mountain

The city of Pézenas is rich by its history.
Beautiful and charming old town, with narrow streets to explore and some great 17th century houses, in the department of Hérault (Occitanie region) north of Agde (16km) and 20 kilometers north-east of Béziers in the Val d’Hérault.
It is also “the city of Molière”: it was a place of stay of choice for Molière and his Illustrious Theater during many tours and trips in the province between 1646 and 1657.
Perhaps that is why Pézenas deserves its name of city of arts with the organization of 9 festivals and many spectacles throughout the year (music, theater, opera, humor, etc …).
You will find the beautiful architectural details as you walk in the alleys.
Stone details on the doors and windows, wrought iron balconies and the beautiful stone staircases.
Many houses dating from the 16th to the 18th century such as: “Hotel Jacques Coeur”, “Hotel Carion de Nizas” and “Hotel de Lacoste”.
The well preserved Jewish ghetto in the city dating from the Middle Ages.
The Collegiate Church of Saint John of the 18th century is mostly visited for the important treasure it contains.
The church of Saint-Jean-de-Bébian Roman style is classified as a historical monument,
and the main church the church of St. Ursula.
The city is also famous for its antique shops and bric-a-brac.
The Tourist Office of Pézenas offers guided tours of the city to help you make the most of a visit.
If you stay in Pézenas, you can stroll through the old town and find a number of welcoming restaurants to seduce you.
